Hey guys,

Here is the latest club news, and VKR news –

Bogu in the MUKC upstairs locker room / cage (by Emily, from fb)

Hi everyone – as you may or may not be aware, we don’t have enough bogu for all our beginners and are unable to borrow from KSK at this time, so we’re trying to fix up all our old bogu upstairs to increase our inventory. There’s a lot of unnamed and unknown bogu upstairs that we need to sort out!
So, if you store your bogu in the cages, please make sure it is NAMED (or in a named bogu bag) and placed on the shelves. Any unnamed bogu, or bogu left rolling around the floor of the storerooms, will be taken as club property from June onwards. Thank you! 🙂

Australian Kendo Team Tenugui Design Competition

We are calling on members who have the design flair to come up with a design concept for the new Australian Kendo Team Tenugui for the World Kendo Championships to be held in Korea September 2018.

Incorporated within the design must be the AKR logo and Australia with the wording “17th World Kendo Championships Korea” also included.

Not only will the Australian Team be wearing these tenugui’s but we also plan to have the tenugui’s available for purchase by all AKR members.

Please submit your concept to me at

Entries close Thursday 31st August 2017.

There will be a prize for the winning design!!

With Regards,

Rob Reid
National Team Manager

Reminder – Shinpan Seminar May 21

Kenshikan 1.00pm to 3.00pm.
Aimed at kendoka 1st to 3rd Dan with “some shinpan experience”. As a minimum this means those who have at least attended a previous VKR shinpan seminar. Kendoka 2nd Kyu and above who have had no shinpan experience should try to attend as shiaisha, as they will be welcome to listen to the lecture and instructions to the shinpan trainees, and so improve their knowledge of these matters.
