Hey guys,

Some news from the AKR (via VKR):

Dear Katie and Ramon,

As you may know, the AKR is a member of the Victorian Governments Weapons Consultative Committee. You may also be aware that members of the AKR have a general exemption to possess otherwise prohibited weapons and that AKR has also contributed to the current redraft of the Regulations.

The current redraft of the regulations does not alter the existing exemption for AKR members.

For your info and the attention of your colleagues, please refer to the attached documents and the below email.

Public submissions have been called for.

Hey guys,

This coming week is mid semester break for Monash Uni. Quite a few club members will be up at the Gold Coast competing in the Aus Uni Games. Because of this, and as Hoey mentioned at Wednesday’s training, there will be no official training this week. The hall is still booked for the club however, so the hall will still be available for private use if you want to train on your own. Take note though, that the lockers will be unavailable this week so if you usually borrow club bogu and you didn’t take it home with you last week, then you will not have bogu to use this week.

If you plan to use the hall this week, please take care of yourself and each other. If there are other people in the hall during our usual timeslot (6:00pm – 8:00pm), then kindly tell them that the hall is still booked for the Kendo Club. If there are any issues, contact the front desk.

Thanks and good luck to the AUG team! :D

Hey guys,

As Hoey mentioned at training today, the regular Friday night training will this week be held at Victoria Uni, Footscray Campus. Together, Monash and Melbourne Uni Kendo Clubs will be visiting Kate and her Victoria Uni Kendo Club to have a joint training. There will also be a team shiai on the day! More details:

Event: Friday night joint training with MUKEN and VU Kendo Club
Location: Victoria Uni, Footscray Campus (Google Maps link)
Date: Friday 9th September, 2011
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm (meet at Monash Sports Centre at 5:30pm if you want a lift. Please see Keegan or Nick at training to make sure there is enough room for you!)

This training is as usual, open to everyone. However please see Keegan or Hoey and let them know that you plan on attending.

This is a great opportunity to train with other people from other clubs and also to see how a shiai is run. For those going to AUG, you should attend this training to get an idea of what to expect at AUG.

Aug 132011

Hey guys!

VKR and MUKEN (this year’s organisers) have asked us to help out with this year’s Victorian Kendo Championships (VKC) . Monash will be managing a shiajo (of two), so we need volunteers! Beginners, this is the perfect chance for you to see what goes on behind the scenes at a taikai. Trust us, this will help you immensely when you start competing (which will be very soon)!

Volunteer duties will include:

  • Ribbon tying
  • Time keeping
  • Scoring (on the boards and on score sheets)

Don’t worry if you don’t know how to do these things, or even what they are. You will learn beforehand and also on the day! Besides that, there will be an experienced shiajo “manager” who will look after you and oversee the shiajo.

Every competition needs volunteers to help make them run smoother, so please help if you can. Hopefully we can get more than required and we can rotate. We need about 8 people to volunteer and we need to know by this coming Wednesday. If you can help out, please let me know, or leave a message on the website. I will keep updating the volunteers list below.

A note for seniors – We need at least one senior member who can act as the shiajo manager. Please let me know if you can do this.

The dates of VKC are Sat 27 Aug – Sun 28 Aug, 2011. The event will go from approximately 8am – 5pm on both days.

Thanks guys! :D
