2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the Kenshikan Dojo! They will be holding the Otsuka Memorial Taikai, the Nagae Taikai and a special dinner to celebrate the occasion. More from Tony Corrigan, president of Melbourne Budokai (MBK) -

The Kenshikan is proud to announce that 2010 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Kenshikan Dojo. To celebrate this grand occasion we will be holding both the Otsuka Memorial Taikai and the Nagae Taikai followed by a 20th Anniversary celebration dinner.

It is with great pleasure that Melbourne Budokai & Kenshikan Dojo invite all members of the VKR to participate in an exciting day of Kendo competition, demonstrations and festivities.

The 2010 Otsuka Memorial Taikai
The Otsuka Memorial Taikai celebrates the founding of the Kenshikan Dojo and is held in honour of Mr Kenshiro Otsuka, the primary benefactor of the Kenshikan Dojo. This is a goodwill event open to all Victorian Kendoka from 6th Kyu – 3rd Dan. As in previous years, this taikai will consist of mixed teams of 3 and is a great opportunity to compete alongside members from other clubs!

Registrations:
Those wishing to participate need only register on the day of the event.

The 2010 Nagae Taikai
The Nagae Taikai is a special event held in honour of Nagae Sensei. His leadership, guidance and tireless efforts laid much of the foundations of what we enjoy today as a thriving budo community. This taikai aims to recognise and celebrate Sensei’s contribution and achievements.

The Nagae Taikai is a high Dan level kendo competition open to 2nd – 5th Dan kendoka only. Pre registration is required

Registration:
· Each club is asked to submit a list of members eligible to compete (in order of preference or grade).
· Please note places will be limited. Each club will have an equal chance to enter members to compete.
· Submissions are required no later than Wednesday, 14th July

20th Anniversary Dinner
Following the Competitions, Demonstrations and Goodwill Keiko, we will be holding a 20th Anniversary Dinner open to all. The dinner will be taking place at a nearby venue (walking distance). Booking is required as catering is provided and spaces are limited. Details of the dinner will be distributed to all club secretaries shortly.

As always, a taikai is simply not possible without the assistance of shimpan. Any 3rd Dan and above able to assist as shimpan would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to help, please email us at secretary@melbournebudokai.com.au

This will be a great chance to see some Kendo from all over Victoria, including some high level Kendo in the Nagae Taikai! There will be many seniors from Monash competing on the day, so juniors, please come and support us! Seniors, if you are interested in competing in any of the events and/or dinner, please see me at training.
